       Kulik bird sanctuary

     Kulik bird sanctuary is situated at Raiganj in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. This sanctuary is named after the river Kulik that is flowing beside this forest, which not only increased the beauty of the forest but also act as a life line of it.

     This sanctuary is distributed in small pockets and surrounded by the river kulik. This dense desiduous  forest is really a wonderful place to visit.

       Flora and fauna

    This sanctuary is a wonderful combination of diversified flora and fauna. Among the vegetation  there are Simul, Siris, Khair, Jarul, Sal, Kadam, Akashmoni and many more.

    This sanctuary is the home of more than 164 species of birds. It id no less than heaven for a bird lover if someone want to watch birds of different species. Among the birds it is the residence of Owl, Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Bulbul, Dove, Flycatcher etc. They are the resident bird of this sanctuary. During winter lots of migratory birds, near about 60000 to 70000 bird come here.Among these guest birds, there are Open bill stork, Egrets, Cormorants and Night herons are worth to mention. Infact this sanctuary is Asia's second largest breeding colony of Asian open bill stork.
     migratory birds come here during end of May to 1st week of July and start to go back to their home land from mid December to end of January. Nesting time is from July to August. Inside the sanctuary, there are few watch towers which provides a fine view of this sanctuary.

       If someone is a nature lover, have a passion for wildlife or love bird watching, then nowhere can be more interesting than Kulik bird sanctuary. Forsake the crowd and treat your senses with an alluring glimpse of green and wildlife.
