Black Crowned Night heron Identification
Black -crowned night heron are sticky bird. They are mostly active at night or dusk. It belongs to the family Ardeidae. Adults are striking in grey and black plume and long white head plume. They lives in colony near water body. It has a storcky grey body with short neck and legs. It stands out with its black cap and black and grey wings, rump and tail. The under parts are white to pale grey. Thick stout bill is black and colour of eyes are red.Juveniles are with white spots on the wings and broad indistinct streacks on the lower parts. Bill mostly yellowish.
Habitat
Mostly found near marshes, streams, wetland and ponds. Feed on fishes generally. Build nests upon trees.Scientific name: Nycticorax nycticorac.
