         Bharatpur bird sanctuary

      Bharatpur bird sanctuary is situated at Rajasthan, on the fringe of Thar desert. It is also known as Keoladeo National Park because of a temple of Keoladeo (Lord Shiva) in the midst of this park. It was formerly a hunting ground of Maharajas of Bharatpur , a princely state of India under the ruling of British Empire. After independence , it got the status of a National Park on 10th March, 1982 and accepted as World Heritage Site in 1985.

        Flora and Fauna

      It is a dense forest. Main vegetation is tropical deciduous trees that includes Jamun, Babul, Kadam etc. This park is the house of more than 366 species of birds, 379 species of plants and about 30 species of mamals. 
       During winter migratory birds from central Asia comes here that make the park an interesting place for birders and wild life photographers. Total area of this National Park is 2873 hectares.
       Birds that can be seen here in large quantities are several species of Cranes, Pelicans, Geese, Ducks, Flycatchers, Painted Storks, Pipits, Hawks, Wagtails, Wheatears, Buntings, Eagles, Bulbul etc. See VIDEO below of Bharatpur National Park.

       How to go

        Bharatpur is easily accessible by bus or train. Delhi and Jaipur are the nearest airports. Nearest railway station is Bharatpur which is only 5 km. away from this national park. Regular bus service is also available from neighbouring cities.

       Best time to visit
    Though this bird sanctuary is open through out the year, best time to visit are from August to November if any one is interested to observe the breeding and nesting of resident birds. And to watch the migratory birds best time id October to February. Temperature here ranges from 48 to 5 degree Centigrade during summer and winter respectively.
