Identification of Rufous sibia
Size of Rufous sibia is arround 21-24 cm. and weight is 28-48 gms. Body is slender. Buffy rufous colour at back , parts of wings and tail and at lower side. Colour if head is black. Blue grey colour in rest of the wings and tail. Bill is slender and curved and is often seen with its crest raised. It's call is vigorous and melodious. Song can be heard throughout the year but mostly in April-August.Rufous sibia searching food |
Habitat
It is found in norther crn part of Indian subcontinent. Range is India, Nepal and Bhutan. Generally found in the forest of lower to middle Himalayas. Natural habitat is broadleaf evergreen forest. Main food is insects and berries.Breeding
Breeding season of Rufous sibia is April-August. Nest is built by both the male and female. Nest is look like a cup and is made of green mosses, dry grasses and dry leaves.Rufous sibia- in search for food |
Distribution
Rufous sibia has three subspecies.
1) H.C capistrata - This subspecies are found in N.E. Pakistan, East and West Himalayas and Western Nepal.
2) H.C.nigriceps - This subspecies found in Nepal (except extreme western and eastern part) and adjacent to south-west China.
3) H.C. bayleyi - It is found in eastern Nepal, Bhutan and north-east of India(west Arunachal Pradesh) and south of China.
